O'Grady was born to Jim O'Grady and Jan O'Grady. Jim O'Grady works as an advisor to financial institutions. Her family lived in Wheaton and attended Wheaton North School, graduating in 1981. Before shifting from Illinois to Los Angeles, she appeared in several commercials. The career of O'Grady began as model and actress for commercials for Montgomery Ward.
